How a cell
tells its neighbor.

01Release
A stem cell buds a vesicle.
Inside an MSC, a section of the inner membrane folds inward, captures cargo, and pinches off into a multivesicular body. When the cell is healthy, the body fuses with the cell wall and releases its vesicles into the surrounding tissue.
02Transit
It drifts to a target.
Surface tetraspanins, CD81, CD9, CD63, act as an address. Receptors on dermal fibroblasts recognize the signature and recruit the vesicle from extracellular fluid into direct contact.
03Fusion
It merges with the target.
The lipid bilayer of the vesicle fuses with, or is taken up into, the membrane of the target cell. Either path delivers the cargo inside, intact.
04Effect
The skin responds.
microRNA reduces inflammatory pathways. Growth factors push collagen and elastin transcription. The fibroblast, for the next 90 minutes, behaves like a younger version of itself.
Section 05 · The Problem

The reason
most exosomes fail.

A vesicle is held together by surface tension between two lipid sheets. Move it from −80 °C to room temperature and that tension relaxes. The membrane cracks. The cargo leaks. The product still says "exosome" on the label.

Sulfated polysaccharide ionically crosslinked with cationic poly-L-lysine. A porous outer shell that buffers osmotic pressure and traps free water away from the vesicle membrane.
